Connecting to the Future

1.The earliest edits on the Jersey Shore Shark Attacks of 1916 article date back to August 2005. There have been many edits since this time. Most of the edits have involved adding references and links. The last edit took place on December 17, 2008. There has been some sort of edit or addition to the page almost every month since it was published. The number steadily decreased as the months went on. The editor made changes to the notes and references section. The page has been up for a little over 6 years now.

2.This article stared out as just a small paragraph introducing the events and a list of the people that were killed. There was only one reference at the time and little information. It was almost an year before any substantial information added to the list. In 2007 the main body of the page was written and since then frequent edits have been made. Nothing too large was made after the expansion in July of 2007. The changes now are small and mostly related to text edits and adding more references.

3.The article is written well and contains a lot of information that seems to have valid sources. The information is organized well and touched on many topics related to the attacks. The authors have done an excellent job of balancing the facts about the actual events with its relevance to pop culture (Jaws) and its impact of the study of sharks. I think that the article does have enough information and references to be a featured article. I have seen both the Discovery Channel and History Channel documentaries on the events and find that the article seems to accurately depict what the experts in both these documentaries have stated.

4.Most of the discussion is based the validity of information. Seems as though there was a large section of information that was speculative that was removed, added back in and then removed again. There is some discussion on the length of the Jaws quotes in the article and how much is too much. Most of the discussion is related to trying to make sure all of the data in the article is accurate. Interestingly enough there is some debate over including New in the title. The majority seem to think that just calling it the Jersey Shore is fine.

5.Dmoon1 – has the most edits with 64. He seems to contribute mostly to Star Wars pages on Wikipedia. He has written on several featured articles. There is not much else on his user page.

Richard Arthur Norton – has made 13 contributions to this article. He has been a member on Wiki for over years. Richard is not an administrator but has made over 63,000 contributions. He has a Master’s of Science and attended Rutgers’s University.

Yomangani – has made 12 contributions but has no information on their user page.

Schmendrick – has made 11 contributions and his profile does not give much information about any knowledge he has to contribute to this article. He is from Texas and would like to rebuild a 1969 Dodge Charger.

In reviewing the various posts, I have noticed a couple of trends. Some articles are like yours- the posts start small and seemingly insignificant. From there, they build momentum to become higher profile pieces. Other articles appear in a initial high quality form.

Seems like the article you reviewed was guided by a couple of people. I wonder what drove them to edit and add to this work??? Dmoon1 has an interest in horror movies, in addition to Star Wars. Maybe that interest in the horror genre is what drove the work on the Jersey Shore article.
