Profile Information

About Me:

Research Interests: I am primarily interested in researching how distance or virtual instructors adopt or adapt to new web-based applications, including web 2.0, and how these contemporary web tools can be leveraged to support student-centered learning. I have previously worked with web-based concept maps in support of science education, while recent work revolves around integrating web tools in support of historical thinking skills.

Classes Taught: ECI 511 (online technology integration course), ECI 513 (hybrid videography course), ECI 517 (online advanced multimedia course), and ECI 716 (online instructional design course).

Service Activities: New Program Coordinator for Instructional Technology (Fall 2008). Starting a new graduate certificate program in E-Learning (Spring 2009). Moving the Instructional Technology Master's program to a fully online program (Fall 2009).

Currently

I am currently involved as co-PI on the Friday Institute's evaluation of the new North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS), and a participant in the evaluation of state Learn and Earn high schools implementing one-to-one computing. I am also working on a digital history resource using primary sources called the Plantation Letters (http://plantationletters.com), that leverages web 2.0 and other technologies to help students interpret life on antebellum plantations for slaves.
