The theoretical and empirical backdrops for my work are social-cognitive theory and research from the learning sciences. My general research interests include the following:
• Teacher social roletaking and roletaking theory development;
• Teachers’ epistemological and moral judgment;
• New teacher support;
• New teacher perceptions of success and commitment; and
• Cognitive coaching to enhance novice and expert teachers’ professional learning.

Current projects for which I am principal investigator include:
• Investigation of features of robust new teacher support programs – 2007-2008. (Funded by UNC-General Administration, $45,000.00);
• Investigation of viability of conducting analytics for school systems related to
new teacher perceptions of success, commitment, and retention – 2006-2008.
(Funded by N.C. State University, $10,000.00).
• Development of new models for assessing teaching graduates as a tool for informing innovation in teacher education – 2008-2009.
(Funded by the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation, $50,000.00).
• Executive Director of SUCCEED which supports research and development
in design of clinical innovations for preservice, beginning, and inservice teachers (UNC-General Administration, $54,000.00).
Hobbies include:
