I read the assigned reading for this week and typed up notes as I was reading each article/case study/report. I will respond to Dr. Holcomb's questions here, but I will attach the notes I took about each of the articles as well. I try to type using a different color so it is easier for me to follow. I hope this helps if you choose to review any of my notes and thoughts/opinions.
"The other week we engaged in a virtual conference for our debate on one-to-one computing. Asides from our discussion last week, how many of you have been part of a meeting that has had a virtual component to it? What do you think are the pros of virtual meetings? The cons?" - Dr. Holcomb
I have only participated in one other virtual meeeting before and it was at the university level. The pros of virtual meetings are cost mostly. Virtual meetings can be held anywhere. No one has to fly, pay for hotels, rental cars, meals out, etc. to meet virtually. Another pro would be the availability of having a hard copy or taped copy to refer to.
The cons include arranging the meeting across time zones, language barriers, too many participants unable to communicate affectively (too much horizontal communication), lack of profit opportunity for the speaker, and lack of preparation.
Do you think the use of virtual meetings will redefine the way business is conducted, which in turn will impact education?? We will use Ning for this discussion." - Dr. Holcomb
